ABC Students Learn the Art of Upcycling |

No hay traducciones disponibles.

This semester ABC's Art Teacher, Paola, rounds out the end of the year with amazing projects that carry an important message: Recycling. As we know, the Dominican Republic could be more conscious in its recycling efforts and that's just what ABC students aim to achieve. Therefore, they have turned trash to treasure. With old magazines and newspapers they brought in, students intricately wove baskets, trivets, and wall décor. In many shapes and sizes, students executed their creativity into numerous projects all in the spirit of recycling, or rather upcycling, which is the process of converting waste materials into better quality and reusable products. These beautiful designs will make their way into homes this season just in time for Mother's Day.

ABC is proud to report that 6th grader, Branche Ortiz, met renowned attorney and environmental activist, Robert Kennedy Jr. at the Hotel Jaragua during Mr. Kennedy's Keynote Speech, "Our Environmental Future" for Green Revolution. Branche's recent short story, "Un niño le hace diez preguntas al planeta Tierra" has won him praise for his clear concern for a sustainable future and has made him a young star in the eyes of today's environmental leaders and our country's leaders. In honor of "Dia del Libro," Branche was invited to the Presidential Palace to meet President Danilo Medina and Vice-President Margarita Cedeño de Fernández to introduce his short story. With such great connections, we are eager to see Branche's career as one of the youngest Dominican authors and environmentalists unfold.
